Yarraville Sewer Rehabilitation
Client: City West Water
Methodology: Pipe bursting
Description: A milestone project for Harris Civil, this was the first successful 800mm diameter pipe burst in Melbourne. The works involved the rehabilitation of an existing 750mm RC sewer in Benbow Street Yarraville using a 800mm Polyethylene (PE) pipe. This is considered a size for size replacement as the internal diameter of the pipe remained unchanged. Harris utilised the pneumatic pipe bursting methodology and achieved a 100m replacement. The works were located along an open drain, within the reserves of The Brimbank City Council. In order for the replacement to occur, significant flow control of numerous lines was required as this is a major asset for CWW. The installation of the pipe was completed and both the client and householders were completely satisfied by the outcome.
Glenroy Sewer Rehabilitaion & Upgrade
Client: Yarra Valley Water
Methodology: Pipe bursting, Manhole rehabilitation, Lining, Manhole construction, Open cut, Boring and associated civil works
Description: The project involved rehabilitating approximately 1.3km of 300 and 375mm RC pipe up to 500mm PE . Works are through parklands and congested streets. The scope of works includes the removal of existing 1050mm manholes to be replaced with 1200mm diameter manholes. Where it is not possible to remove 1050mm manholes, new manhole bases are poured to suit larger diameter pipes. New ladders, lids and epoxy lining of manholes are also installed. We also installed a structural liner under the railway tracks and constructed a diversion to remove the sewer main from private property. We have engaged some subcontractors to assist with these works (specifically lining and boring). We are responsible for liasing with all stakeholders and property owners affected by the works. This project is current and so far we have completed nearly 60% with no complaints from residents regarding interruption of service or general construction concerns.
